Welcome to the new world of 2021, where we hope the virus is under control if not totally eradicated!
Where we can again start to think about our lives, short and longer-term.
2020 was challenging on so many fronts, personally and professionally, adapting to lockdown with a big impact on my work which includes supporting youngsters who for different reasons aren’t in mainstream schools. I was also somewhat reticent about using online solutions although with hindsight, coaching is absolutely fine, and hypnotherapy just needs a bit more preparation for a satisfactory and effective session.
So I thought that whilst my work focuses on our mental state, it’s very much impacted by our physical condition, so let’s kick off 2021 by paying it some attention.
Lifestyle too has required a rethink with gym closures, I appreciate how fortunate I was, able to dust off fitness gear and manage a (mostly) daily workout and bike ride, but for others it’s been a lot harder.
Having said this I have added half a stone of useless fat, that I’m determined to lose, so I thought I’d share some ideas:
- Ideally exercise in daylight, with safety-wear bright, reflective clothing in the dark
- Take a day off when you don’t feel like it, maybe just go for a walk if you normally run
- Get your workout gear ready the night before
- Do a shorter workout if motivation’s low
- Wear gear appropriate to weather conditions: warm, dry, waterproof, windproof etc
- A sporty hat will help prevent heat loss through your head, especially if you-ahem-have less natural covering…plus decent socks and gloves
- Set a long-term challenge and break it down into achievable steps
- Perhaps try outdoor swimming-so on trend, and apparently a best way to get proper fit!
I’m sure you have your own ideas too, and remember that if you need support, contact a personal trainer or coach to help keep you motivated.
Finally aim for ongoing incremental improvement, less daunting and more effective in the long run…
Good luck!
